Houston Rockets: One Team. Two Egos.

Together Again

The NBA off-season has been a wild one. Anthony Davis going to the Lakers. Kawhi Leonard going to the Clippers. Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant going to the Brooklyn Nets. LeBron playing point guard. Again.

Crazy right? Well it has gotten even more crazier. The Houston Rockets acquired Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for Chris Paul and some draft picks.

Earth shattering right? Well no. This could be a nightmare for the Rockets.

On paper, they could be the fifth best team in the West with the Warriors, Lakers, Nuggets and Clippers ahead of them. They have a chance to win a championship this season.

So why this will be a nightmare? Egos.

Before everyone went their separate ways

James Harden and Russell Westbrook are the two most egotistical players in the NBA. Both are ball hogs and would carry their respective teams on their backs.

Yes, I know that played with each other during their Thunder days but both men outgrew that and went on to becoming superstars. I’m not really sold on them working in harmony together.

Both of them are great players but when it comes to it one of them needs to take the final shot of the game.

The question is who?

With these two egos in the starting lineup, how will coach Mike D’Antoni handle it? While coach of the New York Knicks, D’Antoni had to deal with the ego of one Carmelo Anthony. The two didn’t see eye to eye with each other to a point that D’Antoni quit the Knicks before the 2012 season. I just hope that D’Antoni does meditation before and after every practice.

Houston Rockets fans should be excited that the team has gotten drastically better but should be wary of the egos. Nothing kills a potential championship season than two huge egos clashing against each other during the season.

Good luck Rockets.
